We believe in a family-centered approach to patient care. As a result, we encourage you and your family to partner with your healthcare team during your hospitalization.

Visitor Policy

Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, BID Needham has made the decision to limit patient visitors to protect all members of our community, effective November 18, 2020.

PATIENT CARE AREA

CURRENT RESTRICTIONS

COVID-19 positive or suspected COVID-19 positive patients, and patients on precautions

No visitors are allowed with exceptions for essential caregivers; must be approved by the care team in very special circumstances. Virtual visitations will be facilitated.

INPATIENT UNITS

No visitors are allowed with exceptions for essential caregivers; visitors must be approved by the care team in very special circumstances. Virtual visitations will be facilitated.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

(Please practice social distancing in the waiting room.)

Visitors only allowed in cases for the primary caregiver to the patient and when phone communication is not possible.

Adult visitors are not allowed to wait in the waiting room and will be asked to wait in their car or outside.

When possible visitors are encouraged to go home and await an update.

Pediatric: One Parent/Guardian

SURGICAL SERVICES

Visitors are NOT permitted

OUTPATIENT & AMBULATORY AREAS

No visitors are allowed. Accommodations are made for patients with functional impairments or disabilities and parents unable to obtain childcare.

Wear a mask

  • You will be given a hospital-supplied surgical mask upon entering the hospital. Only a hospital issued mask will be allowed during your visit.
  • The mask must be worn at all times for the duration of the visit, covering the nose and mouth, and disposed of once the visitor is outside of the hospital.

Hand hygiene

  • Clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer upon entering the hospital and before entering and after visiting the patient’s room.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as mask, gloves, gown

  • If you are visiting a patient who is COVID-positive, the nursing staff will assist you with PPE.
  • You must keep on all PPE while inside the patient’s room.
  • Gloves and gown must be taken off before you exit the room
  • Please leave your mask on until you exit the hospital.

After the visit

  • Please exit the hospital immediately.
  • The cafeteria and all other areas of the hospital are currently not available to serve visitors.
