Private Doctor Charges

Certain charges from private doctors are not part of your BID Needham bill and will not appear on your hospital statement. These costs are billed individually to you or your health insurance company. Separate bills may include fees from these providers:

  • Anesthesiologist
  • Attending physician
  • Consulting doctor
  • Emergency department doctor
  • Pathologist
  • Private duty nurse
  • Radiologist
  • Surgeon

If you have questions about these professional bills, please contact those groups directly. Their phone number will appear on your statement.

Surprise/Balance Billing Protection

When you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital, you are protected from balance billing (also called surprise billing). In these cases, you shouldn't be charged more than your plan's copayment, coinsurance and/or deductible amounts.

You have rights and protection against surprise medical bills. To learn more, see our Balance/Surprise Billing Protection Notice

Request a Good Faith Estimate

BID Needham is committed to price transparency as part of our mission to provide high-quality, affordable care while complying with federal laws requiring clear and helpful price information be made available to the public.

In some cases, you can ask for a cost estimate  of your health care services in advance. This gives you an idea of the cost of your bill. The estimate might include hospital fees, medication costs and medical tests.

You also can explore the cost of care by using our patient calculator.
