A brand new high tech MRI suite has just opened at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham giving patients the care they need, closer to home. It is the only MRI suite in Needham.

A highly trained, on-site, technical staff will be applying the same protocols used at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston at the Needham site. MRI readings will be done electronically at the Boston campus by board certified radiologists with subspecialty expertise. Radiologists trained in MRI will also be available for consultation at BID-Needham.

"This will complement and allow us to expand the already high-level imaging services we provide locally here at BID-Needham," said Dean Rodman, MD, Chief of Radiology, BID-Needham. "Images and reports will be available to physicians through the same information network that currently exists for diagnostic studies done in Needham and at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center."

"It is exciting for us to extend our MRI services to the Needham campus," said Neil J. Rofsky, MD, Director of MRI at BIDMC in Boston. "We look forward to providing the Needham area community with new MRI technology as a means toward convenient, high quality care."

The MRI scanner, the Siemens' MAGNETOM Symphony, is an eight channel MRI machine capable of providing the highest image quality in shorter scan times. The MRI can perform a wide variety of clinical applications, including neurological, angiographic, spectroscopic, orthopedic, chest, abdominal, and pelvic examinations.
