NEEDHAM, MASS. — Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham’s (BID–Needham) 19th annual gala was held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Westin Copley Place, Boston. This year’s celebration, “Havana Nights,” brought together more than 825 community members for a night of bidding, dancing and excitement, all in support of the construction of a state-of-the-art Outpatient Clinical Center (view a video of plans for the new center). The hospital will break ground on the center in November, and will offer cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics and other medical surgical specialty care by early 2019.

Maria Stephanos, WCVB NewsCenter 5 anchor, was the evening’s emcee, with auctioneer John Terrio leading a live auction that helped raise $750,000 to benefit the Outpatient Clinical Center. To kick of the fundraising portion of the night, a video message from Governor Charlie Baker thanked the crowd for their efforts to help keep BID–Needham strong.

“Our annual gala is a testament to the power of this community,” said John M. Fogarty, president and CEO, BID–Needham. “Everyone in the room that evening has made contributions to our community and our hospital. The dedication of our supporters is unparalleled, and we are so grateful for their unwavering commitment to our hospital. In a few weeks, we will break ground on a new Outpatient Clinical Center, and our gala is the first in a series of momentous occasions as we progress towards this next phase of growth. The outpouring of support from our community to help build this new Center will help improve the lives of their friends, families and neighbors for years to come.”

“This evening is about all of us coming together and investing in our hospital because we all need quality health care—for our loved ones, family, friends and neighbors,” said Samantha Sherman, chief development and external relations officer, BID–Needham. “So much of the night was made possible by our incomparable Gala Planning Committee. Their dedication, diligence and leadership drive this event and make this night so special.”
