  • Family Promise MetroWest Walk to End Homelessness Family Promise MetroWest Walk to End Homelessness 2018-04-07 Location: Natick Community Senior Center (117 East Central Street, Natick)

    BID-Needham is a proud sponsor of the Family Promise MetroWest Walk to End Homelessness, and provides first aid for this walk. 

    This event is family friendly, with music, children's crafts, face painting and much more. Funds raised from the event will go toward the organizations Shelter, Transitional Living and our Steps to Success Programs. This year we will also be funding a new program, Lift Up, in collaboration with City Mission. This program is an intensive, voluntary two-year homelessness prevention program for low-income single mothers and their families who are at risk of losing their housing.

    BID-Needham is proud to partner with Needham Community Education again to offer the following presentations to the community. Registration is required, but the programs are free of charge. Please note that the classes will be held in the Needham High School media center.

    A Good Night’s Sleep with Robert Thomas, MD. Getting the right amount of sleep can impact your whole body, including your mental and physical health. Join Dr. Robert Thomas to discuss circadian rhythms, sleep hygiene, sleep needs and habits, and how to establish a good bedtime routine. Red flags for medical sleep disorders will be briefly discussed. Learn ways to help insomnia and other sleep disorders, and take the steps you need to getting a good night’s sleep. Registration is limited to 24.

  • Greater Boston YMCA Healthy Kids Day: A Free Community Event Greater Boston YMCA Healthy Kids Day: A Free Community Event 2018-04-21 Location: Newman Elementary School Gym, 1155 Central Avenue, Needham, MA, 02492

    BID-Needham is a sponsor of this year's YMCA Healthy Kids Day. The Charles River YMCA is celebrating with a free community event that encourages kids to get moving and learning, and families living healthier. The hospital will also be providing several stations covering various health topics at the event. Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, takes place at 1,900 YMCA's across the country, and kick-starts healthier behaviors now and throughout the summer, a critical out-of-school time for children’s health.

    The Needham Conservation Commission, in partnership with the Needham Health Department and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, is pleased to invite the public to join us for a free presentation entitled: "DEER TICKS: ONE BITE CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE."

    Lyme Disease is the most prevalent infectious disease in Massachusetts and is now considered to be a public health crisis. In addition to Lyme, deer ticks can carry the pathogens which cause Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis, Relapsing Fever and Powassan virus, all of which can be very serious.

    Tick-borne diseases are completely preventable. Come learn how!
    Please join us as we welcome Larry Dapsis, Entomologist with the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, to talk about this insect that we all need to be aware of. Larry has thirty-six years of professional pest management experience including Vegetables, Cranberries and Household Insects. He joined Cape Cod Cooperative Extension in 2011 as Deer Tick Project Coordinator and Entomologist and is a member of the Barnstable County Task Force on Lyme and other Tick-Borne Diseases.
