Emergency Care at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham

In a medical emergency, it’s important to get care as soon as possible. Acting quickly can save your life or the life of someone else. The emergency department (ED) at BID Needham is ready to help. 

Our doctors are board-certified and members of Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Using the latest technology, we provide the care you need when minutes count.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our emergency facility and services include the following:

  • 19 private treatment rooms
  • Double ambulance bay with access to a fully equipped trauma room
  • Pediatric waiting room
  • Radiology services
  • Telehealth for acute stroke consultations

If you need cardiac catheterization or other more advanced services, we provide rapid transport to BIDMC in Boston.  

When to Visit the Emergency Department

If you or a loved one has any of the following symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department as soon as possible:

  • Broken bones or dislocated joints
  • Fainting, changes in mental state, or slurred speech
  • Head or eye injuries
  • Serious burns, cuts, or lacerations
  • Weakness and/or numbness in one side
  • You should also go to the emergency room if your doctor tells you to, or if it’s your only option at the current time and location.  
Where to Go When It’s Not an Emergency

Receiving the right care at the right place can save you time and money. Seeing your primary care doctor or visiting urgent care may be the right option, depending on your condition.

Your primary care doctor can treat a variety of conditions:

  • Chronic conditions, such as diabetes
  • Minor infections
  • Minor scrapes and bruises
  • Muscle pains

An urgent care center can treat a variety of non-emergencies:

  • Dehydration
  • Minor animal bites or stings
  • Minor cuts or burns
  • Rashes

Services & Specialties

After you’ve been treated in the Emergency Department, you may be released or admitted for inpatient care. No matter where you go, you’ll have a team of experts by your side.
