The Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center is home to advanced diagnostics and therapies, and compassionate, team-based care. The new, 30,000 square-foot facility is adjacent to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham and the top floor features a state-of-the-art Surgical Pavilion.
Architects designed the cancer center with significant input from patients and clinicians to create the ideal, patient-centered experience.
Natural sunlight surrounds the treatment areas, which overlook a healing garden. There are 10 chemotherapy bays, a private chemotherapy room, and multiple clinical exam rooms.
All cancer care services are on the first floor. That includes radiation therapy, typically found in the basement, because the concrete and lead used to shield the equipment is so heavy. Elevating the linear accelerator to the first floor was no small accomplishment, but central to honoring patient requests for more sunlight in treatment areas.
