Architects designed the cancer center with significant input from patients and clinicians to create the ideal, patient-centered experience.

Natural sunlight surrounds the treatment areas, which overlook a healing garden. There are 10 chemotherapy bays, a private chemotherapy room, and multiple clinical exam rooms.

All cancer care services are on the first floor. That includes radiation therapy, typically found in the basement, because the concrete and lead used to shield the equipment is so heavy. Elevating the linear accelerator to the first floor was no small accomplishment, but central to honoring patient requests for more sunlight in treatment areas.

Highlights of the Beth Israel Deaconess Cancer Center include:

• Nationally Recognized Specialists: An exceptional team of nationally recognized hematologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, oncology nurses, and social workers provide comprehensive, compassionate cancer care for a wide range of diseases including blood, breast, colon and rectal, gynecologic, lung/thoracic and prostate cancers.
• Harvard-Affiliated: The same top-notch Harvard-affiliated physicians you would see in Boston are conveniently available close to home.
• A Dedicated Nurse: A primary nurse assigned to every patient helps coordinate your care and services.
• Access to Clinical Trials: Clinical trials are available through the Boston campus of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
• Easy-to-Manage Care: With PatientSite – a secure, password-protected, web-based program – you can communicate with your healthcare team for non-urgent questions or concerns. You can also manage appointments, and access your medical records, test results and doctor notes 24 hours a day.
• Onsite Lab and Pharmacy: A laboratory, with walk-in service, is conveniently located in the Cancer Center. A pharmacy, dedicated to cancer care, is but a few steps away, through the first floor and into the hospital.
• Windows of Hope Shop: A specialty shop that carries wigs, hats and scarves; special creams and lotions; books and CDs, and more.
• Patient Resource Center: Our Center has internet access, computer workstations, cancer information, and informative books and brochures on all topics related to cancer including community resources. It is a comfortable spot to gather with family and close friends for research and support.

Cancer is a team effort, led by medical oncologists, radiation therapists and surgeons, who consult with one another, and you, about treatment plans and outcomes.
