Mammography

Advanced screening and diagnostic mammograms

Mammography at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham

Mammography takes low-dose X-ray pictures of breast tissue. This breast screening test can identify lumps, tumors or other abnormalities you may not feel.

At Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham, we know that early breast cancer detection saves lives. The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms beginning at age 45, with an option to start at age 40. You should continue this annually for as long as you’re in good health.

Offering the Latest in Mammogram Technology

The BreastCare Center at BID Needham utilizes the latest technology, including 3D mammogram, ultrasounds and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). 3D mammography is an innovative screening and diagnostic breast imaging tool that improves the early detection of breast cancer and reduces call-backs.

Depending on the results of your mammogram, your doctor may recommend ongoing surveillance or additional testing. Learn about the other screening and diagnostic services our breast health team offers.
