Longtime Employee Gets Surprise Call from BID–Needham
It’s no wonder that Carol Rossi thought it was a business-as-usual phone call from BID–Needham when a hospital number recently popped up on her cell phone. After all, she’s been an employee at BID–Needham since 1981, working in human resources before switching to the medical staff office in 1992 after a brief retirement. But the call turned out to be far from ordinary.
“I thought someone was playing a joke,” she said. “But when I realized it wasn’t, I was just in shock. I felt like I was going to cry.”
Carol Rossi had been notified that her name had been drawn among 200 tickets as the winner of a week-long stay for four in beautiful Manciano, Italy, in Tuscany. The drawing happened at the BID–Needham Gala, among 825 in attendance, but Rossi was unable to attend this year, so she was notified after the event.
“I immediately called my daughter, who was also in shock,” Rossi said. “My second call was to Tina Powers [Credentialing Specialist at BID–Needham]. When I originally told Tina that I had bought a ticket, she told me that I was going to win. So naturally, she had to be my next call.”
The rental was one of two Italian villas available at the Gala, the other being auctioned for $7,000. One hundred percent of the proceeds will support the new Outpatient Clinical Center breaking ground this fall. Rossi said that she has attended three of BID–Needham’s 19 annual Galas.
“I bought it as a contribution to the hospital, but never expected to win,” she said. “I have never been to Europe, and it just so happened that I was trying to plan a trip to Italy before purchasing the raffle ticket. I still can’t believe that I won it.”
