Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Needham has again received a prestigious national award recognizing patient satisfaction with the Emergency Department.

For the second year in a row, the Emergency Department won a Five-Star Award from Professional Research Consultants (PRC) Inc., an independent national health care research organization. The award cited BID-Needham for scoring in the top 10 percent of all hospitals in a nationwide patient satisfaction survey.

PRC collected satisfaction data by conducting telephone surveys with a random sample of patients shortly after they received treatment in the BID-Needham Emergency Department.

"We are proud of the consistently high rankings achieved by our Emergency Department physicians, nurses and employees," said Jeffrey H. Liebman, president and chief executive officer at BID-Needham. "The integration of this service with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Emergency Department has resulted in a rare combination of outstanding care and timely treatment."

Surveys have shown that patients rank BID-Needham within the top 1 percent when it comes to quick evaluation and treatment times. Emergency care is provided by the exact same Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians who staff the Emergency Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Within the past year, BID-Needham also achieved perfect survey results from the nation's top hospital accreditation agency, the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Recent enhancements in the BID-Needham Emergency Department include upgraded computerized monitoring equipment and the addition of a new adult treatment room and a special child-friendly treatment room.
