The Anticoagulation Clinic is a nurse-staffed, physician-supervised clinic to help you manage your risk of blood clots using medication. Our experienced nurses provide one-on-one patient education and point-of-care testing.
The Importance of Anticoagulation Therapy
Anticoagulation medications, or blood thinners, help you prevent blood clots. The most common blood thinner is Warfarin, also known as Coumadin. This medication helps to prevent heart attacks and strokes caused by blood clots.
Certain conditions and procedures make you more likely to develop blood clots. These include:
- Atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm).
- Blood clotting disorders.
- Surgery, including heart valve and joint replacement procedures.
Our team will work closely with your primary care provider to help you manage your medications and keep your heart healthy.
